The Oregon Convention Center (OCC) has joined forces with radio station 101.9 Kink FM to offer a free summer concert series at the new OCC Plaza beginning July 12 and continuing every Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. through August 30.
The concert line-up includes:
July 12: Curtis Salgado
July 19: Soul Vaccination
July 26: Pepe and the Bottle Blondes
August 2: Wheels in the Sky
August 9: The Stolen Sweets
August 16: Sonny Hess Women in Blues Revue
August 23: Bobby Torres Big Band
August 30: Quarterflash
Located directly across N.E. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard from the center’s main entrance at N.E. Oregon Street, the series is anticipated to be a popular gathering place for friends and families to enjoy the fantastic Pacific Northwest summer weather, exceptional live music and a distinctive food and beverage menu.
The facility’s renowned chef, Allan Wambaa, created a special barbeque menu that offers local ingredients with an international flair on the traditional grill.
In addition to a Painted Hills beef burger with Tillamook cheese and house-made garlic remoulade, guests can purchase a twist on the Vietnamese favorite, the Banh Mi sandwich, that includes grilled Akausha sausage with house-made mayonnaise, soy sauce, shredded pickled carrots, daikon and fresh cilantro; Carlton Farms Kochujang-smothered pork belly with pickled radishes and Chinese broccoli over white rice; and vegetarian items such as a grilled vegan hemp burger with Muffaletta spread; and a veggie kabob bento comprised of zucchini, Japanese eggplant, summer squash, crimini mushrooms and a habanero cilantro lime glaze over white rice.
Oregon beer, wine and distilled spirits will also be available for purchase.
The series is underwritten by generous event sponsors including Domaine Chandon, Heathman Hotel, House Wine, Hoyt Street Station Community Café, Langley Investment Properties, Lloyd Center, Lloyd District Transit Management Association, NW Natural, Pepsi, Waterbrook Winery, and Metro’s online community input panel, Opt In.
The OCC Plaza opened earlier this year as an outdoor extension of the convention center and has been utilized by clients such as the Portland International Auto Show for receptions and special events. Developed as a revenue generation tool and a neighborhood asset, the plaza will host future community events that draw Lloyd District residents and businesses together.
